Day Before Yesterday, Second Edition is a re-creation of a Whitehall, New York pictorial history originally compiled by Doris Begor Morton, Whitehall Town Historian from c. 1955 to 1988. The book was published by the Town Board of Whitehall in 1977, with a second printing produced in 1981.
The book was out-of-print and unavailable for many years, so the Historical Society of Whitehall and Bloated Toe Enterprises have joined in producing a second edition of Morton's work. Bloated Toe has increased the size of the book, making it possible to enlarge the 300+ photos within. In addition, the photos have been retouched and enhanced, and the captions and other textual information have been updated, clarified, and/or corrected.
The photographs in the book convey Whitehall's rich history. Included are portraits from the 18th century, and photos from the 19th and 20th centuries. There are aerial views of the town at various points in time, as well as photos from the canal and lake-boat era, and of the silk mills, railroad, various streets, churches, and much more.
The second edition includes the original preface and introduction written by Horace Scott, former Town Supervisor. The back cover displays a photo of the late Doris Begor Morton, and includes a dedication to Doris written by Carol Greenough, past President of the Historical Society of Whitehall, current Whitehall Heritage Area Director, and close friend of Doris.
The book is available for purchase in Whitehall, NY at the Village Office and the Skenesborough Museum (when open), and in Plattsburgh, NY through Bloated Toe Enterprises. Bloated Toe will also handle sales of books requiring shipment to other locations.
